The latest release from my ambient side project, the ambient visitor. A continuous, hour long piece split into eight parts. Slow, really slow, expansive atmospheres and bells. The music is generative: each note is played in a long loop, the length of each loop if different for each note, so although the music may seem to vary only slightly, it never quite repeats itself. Feel free to share this music. Free/name-your-price download.

The new experimental ambient EP from Bing Satellites. This release follows in the footsteps of Bing's collaboration with Tange 'A Crossing Of Paths' (it was recorded around the same time). It, more than probably any other Bing Satellites release, relies on sounds being heavily processed until the original sounds almost completely disappear. This is an ambient EP but it is heavy with mid and very low bass and quite psychedelic at times. And the music moves about in space - listen to this on headphones (especially Space Between Your Ears) and hear these songs swirl around you.

On the spur of the moment, last night I broadcast an improvised ambient set on mixlr.com, live, as it happened. There were a few glitches in the broadcast which I have ironed out of the recording. What you get here is nearly an hour of atmospheric ambience performed on flute, glissando guitar and the rest of my usual set up. I will be adding more tracks to this album in the next few weeks - whenever I do another similar broadcast.

My first full release on a label other than BFW is out now on the wonderful Italian netlabel laverna.net. 'Areas Of Darkness And Light' is an experimental exploration of sound, mostly free of rhythm or melody. After a glowing review of my EP Time in Italian music magazine Rockerilla, I was asked if I would like to release some music on the Laverna netlabel. I was already a fan of the label, which releases some very interesting electronic music, so immediately said Yes! The album is the result of a week of seven recording sessions from 3 to 8 May 2011 with a new studio set-up with new VST plugins and equipment from my good friend JCM. This new set up gives me scope to create a wider range of deeply ambient sounds and manipulate them in ways I couldn't have done before now. I am very happy with the result.

What is hopefully the first of many collaborations between myself and Tange. Many of you will be aware of Tange through his catalogue of beautiful ambient music, some of which you can download for free from the wonderful Earth Mantra netlabel. Others will know him through his radio show Mysterious Semblance on StillStream which airs weekly on Friday at midnight UK time (6pm CST). He has been kind enough to play my music quite a lot on there. There is a definite area of crossover in our music too, so when he suggested a collaboration, I jumped at the chance! My part in this album happened very quickly - I was really inspired by the original, lengthy piece Tange sent me.

New live ambient album - Twilight Sessions volume 6 - out now, free download!

The sixth album in the Twilight Sessions series. Like the first five volumes, this is an album of completely improvised, live ambient music. Each piece starts as a blank canvas. The music is built around a long, slowly decaying loop. Notes are added from synths, guitar, voice and clarinet and over time, they built into grand, atmospheric soundscapes. Sometimes, however, I forget to press record when something wonderful is created. On these occasions, I can only capture the loop that has already been created. This is the reason that three of the tracks on this album are unusually short. Also, next month sees the release of my brand new collaboration with fellow ambienteer Tange.

The fifth album in the Twilight Sessions series. Like the previous four releases in this series, this is a collection of improvised live recordings. In places, very ambient: long, drawn out pieces that evolve slowly, creating quite an emotive and evocative sound. Each piece starts as a blank canvas with no preconceived notion of where the music will go. Notes and noises are played from synths, guitar, voice, clarinet and samples and fed into one or two loops which repeat and layer and decay. These loops can be quite long, so as a performer I can add notes as I see fit, but only have a certain amount of control over what is heard - the rest is serendipity. This time, the whole album was recorded in one week in November 2010, with each recording around an hour long. I hope you enjoy this album as much as I enjoyed making it. Rest assured, another one will follow soon enough!
